Bio
Denise's most recent work includes two diverse solo shows. This One, an autobiographical journey through love, loss, and baking, complete with post-show pie reception, and Someday, a short comedic piece in which seminar leader Pamela Steel deftly guides participants towards a cutting edge psychological technology called Someday, but then unexpectedly encounters an unplanned, unorthodox, and unexplainable lesson of her own.
The original twenty-five minute version of This One was produced and performed as part of the 2013 Hamilton Fringe Festival. Denise has since expanded the show to its current full length. Someday, which combines a self-improvement seminar, African dance, a business suit, and eventually, nudity, was programmed and performed as part of the 2014 LabCab Festival and is currently being developed as a short film.
Denise holds an M.F.A in Acting from York University as well as a B.F.A in Music Theatre from the University of Windsor. She has been seen in film festivals throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe in the award winning film Falling For Caroline in which she plays the title character.
Other previous credits include The Threepenny Opera (Soulpepper), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Festival of Classics), Steel Magnolias (Port Stanley Festival Theatre), South Pacific (Sunshine Festival Theatre) as well as appearing on the CTV series Dan For Mayor. During the summer of 2010 Denise performed in two shows at the Fringe Festival of Toronto: The Getaway, a site-specific show in a moving van, which she also co-produced, and A Freudian Slip of the Jung, which went on to play at the Berkeley Street Theatre and the Toronto Centre for the Arts in the Best of the Fringe Festivals.
Her passion for movement work took her to Chicago in June of 2014 for a two week training intensive in Suzuki technique with P3East Theatre Company. Recently she also traveled to Nelson B.C. where she has begun her yoga teacher training, to be completed in May 2015. Denise grew up on a farm in South Western Ontario and lives in Toronto.
